28.4.2026 Music School Application Finland – Video Series for Beginners
What do children really think about starting a music hobby? A new video series at the Pirkanmaan musiikkiopisto gives children a voice: they ask honest questions, and teachers respond in a supportive way. I created the series from idea to filming and editing during this academic year. Warm thanks to Artturi Winsten for guidance!

17.3.2026 Greetings from Norway – joining the NM Janitsjar jury
I’m happy to share that I’ve been invited to join the jury of NM Janitsjar, the Norwegian Wind Band Championships in Trondheim Norway 20.-21.3.2026. The event brings together some of the top wind bands in Norway and is an important meeting point within the Nordic wind band scene.
It’s a pleasure to experience the competition and to get a broad view of the Norwegian wind band field. Events like this also offer valuable opportunities for exchange and connection with colleagues.

Finnish Wind Band Strategy – Reflections and Next Steps
I had the pleasure of presenting the work behind the Finnish Wind Band Strategy 2025–2035 together with Laura Clewer at the Finnish Wind Band Days in Pori in March 2026. The strategy outlines key directions for developing wind band music in Finland and responds to shared challenges across many countries – such as recruitment, accessibility, and building sustainable pathways from beginner level to advanced ensemble playing.
During the session, we presented the main ideas of the strategy, actions already taken and the next steps. What made the session especially meaningful was the discussion with participants – many valuable perspectives and ideas emerged from across the field. The work is closely connected to Nordic and international collaboration. Learning from different systems and practices helps us better understand how to strengthen wind band culture in a changing environment.
Personally, it is especially inspiring to be part of this development at a time when international dialogue is becoming increasingly important. Continuing these conversations across borders – both through collaboration and upcoming international engagements – is essential for building a strong and sustainable future for wind band music.

What’s new: Junior Conducting Workshop
A long-awaited junior conducting workshop is finally coming back to Tampere! I will be leading the course on Saturday 28 March (12–15), organised by Pirkanmaan Pinna. I have been teaching junior conducting workshops for over 10 years, and it’s always inspiring to introduce new musicians to the world of conducting. The course is especially aimed at young players, but anyone interested in conducting is welcome. During the session we will explore the basics of conducting, different beat patterns, and most importantly, what it feels like to stand in front of an orchestra. Over the years, many participants have gone on to pursue conducting more seriously, continuing in their studies or in orchestral activities. For many, this course has been a first step towards conducting.

Pirkanmaan Pinna association plays a significant role in conducting education in Finland, having organised over 100 courses with more than 500 participants. I’m also happy to be involved in this work as a member of the board. This is a great opportunity to try conducting in a supportive and inspiring environment. I had the pleasure of taking part in a Senso Coaching Day for musician – what a wonderful day and inspiring event! The event featured wonderful lecturers: Marko Siivonen, Aapo Rantanen, Erja Joukamo-Ampuja, Milla Mäkinen and Laura Saarinen. I definitely want to learn more about this topic and can warmly recommend reading Marko Siivonen´s book Aivoilta apua (”Help from the brain”) which explores how fuctional neuroscience supports well-being. For music teachers and conductors alike, understanding how the musician’s nervous system works is truly eye-opening. More info from spinacor.fi
